Friday was May Day, a public holiday so no hospital for us! We had a walk in the morning and treated ourselves to our first ice cream of the elective. We made a mental list of a number of lovely restaurants we want to visit on our weekends, all with lovely views and authentic food. We headed back to the hotel and read by the pool before heading to the Au Cafe Du Village music night
The market looking the fullest we've seen it since cyclone Pam
Produce from the outer islands
Welcome to Port Vila
A stint on the swings
We met Pete another med student from Bristol uni and took him with us
Lots of dancing and singing
We stuck it out til the end and said bye to our new friends Wendy and Sheila
We had come across a good deal on a tour before the music night so the next day we went on the Coongoola boat to Moso Island to see some turtles at a turtle sanctuary to sail around the island and snorkel in the reef! We had a lovely bbq lunch and much to our surprise there were only 4 of us on the trip; a French bloke called Parrick, Pete, Amy and I. This meant we all got to hold a turtle and there was lots of food for us all!
At the turtle sanctuary
Driving the boat
Jumping around on our own private beach
On Sunday we did our weekly shop, we were excited because we. Changed up the menu to have TACOS! We failed to find any more of our only vice though. Diet coke!
In the afternoon we were to meet our friend Wendy for a drink. She said she'd take us to a local bar rather than the tourist places in town. We had a lovely evening and met lost of nice people
Some graffiti in town!
The local bar
We tried the local beer as well 'Tusked' it was quite nice but I think having not havingf dinner yet it was all a bit much for me!
We had some local veg with our drinks but as sun set we headed home to a bowl of noodles and a chat with some pals we'd made in the hostel following their return from TAnna Island. A glass of wine later we headed to bed as Monday was a day we'd been excited about for a while! We'd been invited to Sheila's family home to try the national dish of Laplap, she was going to make it especially for us!
