We had planned to climb up mount Maunganui as we weren't able to do the dolphin swim due to it being winter. We set off and had yoghurt and banana on the sea front.
Birthday breakfast picnic
We started the walk, we knew it was along a highway and through a very industrial shipping area but nothing had prepared us for the 1000 different smells we experienced from all the factories on the walk!
Apparently this is what winter looks lie!
The mountain!
We started by doing the base track 45 minutes around the base of the mountain, this was really spectacular at times , with beautiful views over the Pacific Ocean. We walked at quite a pace and got quite a sweat on just around the base so we weren't sure what to expect as we walked to the summit

Starting the climb
It was seriously heavy going, on such a sunny day, we had taken our raincoats and multiple layers with us as we said we'd do in return for good weather! After a lot of moaning and groaning and a little bit of singing we made it to the top just in time for lunch
Sausage with a view
We went back down and strolled along a gorgeous beach, where we could see the peak we'd just been on! The beach stretched for miles and the sand was really nice underfoot!
The beach
We walked back to Tauranga and stopped for a celebratory cocktail!
Before getting dressed up to go for dinner
Wearing our raincoats of course!
We shared a bottle of champagne and indulged in more green lipped Coromandel mussels
And delicious main courses
And birthday dessert followed by a couple of cheeky strawberry Lindauers :)
I had the best day Thankyou so much Amy for making the day so brilliant and unforgettable :)
